Synopsis
Barli (Ikang Fawzi), a journalist, is approached by an old
friend and offered an airline ticket to Amsterdam and US$
5,000 to take a message to a young woman named Bunga (Marissa Haque) in order to counter a “moral threat”. Barli refuses, but becomes curious and starts to find out as much as he can about Bunga. He discovers that she was suddenly ordered to study in Holland at the expense of her company, and that she is engaged to Denny (Dolly Martin), the son of businessman Umar Abdulah (Sophan Sophiaan). It turns out that none of the letters that Bunga has written to Denny have been answered because Umar is attempting to keep the young couple away from each other. Barli, whose investigations have caught Umar’s attention, is kidnapped and told the background of the situation. It turns out that during a party to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary, Umar had become aware that Bunga was his daughter from an affair with a Dutch woman (Minati Atmanegara) that he had when his wife (Widyawati) was experiencing a particularly difficult time during her pregnancy with Denny. When Denny introduced Bunga as his girlfriend to Umar at a party to celebrate his parents’ 25th wedding anniversary, the older man was shocked to recognize the brooch, a gift from her mother, which the young woman was wearing. This is what made Umar aware that Bunga was his daughter. Umar had hidden this sin for the sake of his sterling reputation as a faithful husband, his family’s social status, and the survival of the conglomerate that he had built. Now, he simply wants to resolve the problem in his own way. Once Barli understands the meaning of “moral threat”, he decides to do as his friend has asked. Barli leaves for Holland and reveals the entire story to Bunga. He shows Bunga photos of a meeting, which were taken clandestinely, between Umar and her mother, who is now married to another Indonesian man and lives in Medan, North Sumatra. During that meeting, Umar asked Bunga’s mother to help him keep Denny from marrying Bunga. After hearing this story, Bunga is willing to go back to Indonesia. Once she returns, Umar invites her to a family meeting at his house. There, Umar confesses his actions to his wife and children. Melyana (Soraya Haque), who has always admired her father, becomes very angry at Umar, as does his wife. Denny runs out and takes off in a car and has an accident. Bunga returns to Holland. When Barli is assigned to cover the war in Yugoslavia, Umar asks him to go see Bunga again. Barli and Bunga then become lovers.
