Sembilan Wali (Wali Sanga)

(title translation: Nine Guardians)

Due to the civil war in Majapahit, the Queen Mother flees to Ampel, guarded by Mahesa Kicak. Coincidentally, there is a gathering of the Wali Sanga. The Queen Mother asks them to restore the honour of the kingdom. Sunan Ampel explains that the hermitage is built only to spread the religion of Islam. To restore the honour of Majapahit, they need an army. Mahesa Kicak, who has an ambition to become a ruler, offers to build the army. But the wali has a different opinion. Raden Patah is considered to be the perfect man for the task as he is the son of Prabu Brawijaya, although born from a concubine. Mahesa Kicak is offended and leaves the court. He becomes Syech Siti Jenar’s disciple, who is considered an infidel against Islamic teachings. But Syech Siti Jenar does not agree with Mahesa Kicak’s request. So finally, Mahesa Kicak cooperates with Adipati Brumbung but is still defeated by Raden Patah.
