Singa Lodaya

(title translation: Lodaya Lion)

Kasim belongs to a Mobile Brigade troop during the independence war against the Dutch and also the battle against the PKI Muso rebellion in Madiun in 1948. But Kasim is vengeful towards Mujo, a fellow troop member who is also known as Singa Lodaya (Lodaya Lion). Mujo is a “warok” (a term for best leader/hero/fighter in traditional Javanese community) who wants to be the greatest “warok”. Long ago, he was very much in love with the wife of Gembong, a retired “warok”. Then he fought Gembong, resulting in Gembong’s death and witnessed by his little son, Kasim. Since then, Kasim swears that he will never marry. The grown-up Kasim recognises the mark in Mujo’s hand and finally challenges him to a fight. The duel is stopped with the arrival of their comrades, and when one of the commanders, who knows Mujo’s story, tells the truth of the story to Kasim. In the end, both die in battle.
