Three story lines thread through the lives of three key characters - Reza the activist, Usman the rickshaw driver, and Tari - who survive the 2004 tsunami disaster. Reza Indria, a 24 year-old youth activist, loses his girlfriend in the tsunami. Wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt, he rides his motorbike to tour the areas afflicted by the tsunami, including the remains of his girlfriend's house. The second story shows Maisarah Untari or the 12-year-old Tari, a little girl who lives in the Children Center, Lampeunurut, Banda Aceh, after losing her mother and sister. Tari, whose leg is broken after being dragged by the tsunami, learns to survive with the support of her friends. The third tale is about Usman, 50-years-old, a tricycle driver whose whole family are killed during the tsunami. Usman then meets his friend, Jaelani, a member of a Seudati dance group. Jaelani seems cheerful despite the fact that all his group members have drowned. He also teaches Usman how to dance Seudati and tries to make the old man smile again. Meanwhile, Tari often strolls around with her friends while singing Islamic songs. Each story line is presented independently and sequentially. But as the scenes are sometimes not shown completely, their intention and purpose become unclear.
