Mia loves Rio but the nightclub singer has to give herself to Harris, a widower who loves her. She does this to keep alive her mother, who suffers kidney failure and has expensive dialysis treatment. She prays to God and states her acceptance of her fate to be a prostitute. Meanwhile, she refuses Harris’s marriage proposal because she does not want to feel indebted. Then, her beloved boyfriend Rio, gets engaged with Harris’s daughter. Mia’s sacrifice turns out to be pointless. Her father dies when hit by a car, and an attempt to transplant his kidney to her mother also fails. A lot of the film’s dialogue contains life’s "philosophy".
