The original title was New Order History or SOB (Sejarah Orde Baru). This was the highest grossing film of 1984 in Jakarta with 699,282 viewers according to Perfin (National Film Distributors Association). This was a record unmatched until 1995. In September 1998, Yunus Yosfiah, the Minister of Information, announced that the film would not be screened nor released, together with the films, Janur Kuning (1979) and Serangan Fajar (1981), for being historically incorrect and for idolizing former President Soeharto.

On why there were hardly any films on this subject, Krishna Sen notes in the book, Indonesian Cinema: Framing the New Order (published in 1982), that "a more important reason was that 1965 was a 'family quarrel' in contrast to the '1945 revolution where we together confronted opposition from other nations.' When, in 1981, the PFN decided to make the first, and so far the only 'historical' film about the coup that brought Soeharto to power, PFN head, G Dwipayana was convinced that this was a subject matter which should only be filmed under close government supervision."
