Noesa Penida (Pelangi Kasih Pandansari)

(title translation: Pandansari's Love Rainbow)

Set in early 20th century Bali, the king of Tabanan is killed, but his daughter, Gusti Ayu Pandansari, survives. She is hidden and raised in a fishing village by loyal followers of the king, I Murda and I Kompyang. Sari is raised along with Murda’s sons, Jaya and Pageh. Sari and Pageh learn dancing and "gamelan" (traditional music with gongs) in Kintamani, while Jaya helps Daeng Azis, captain of a Bugis boat, who often smuggles weapons to fight against the Dutch occupation. When Sari and Pageh return home, a love relationship grows between Sari and Jaya. The difference in caste is an obstacle for them. Then misfortune falls on Jaya when he kills to defend his younger brother, who is cheated during a cockfight. Jaya is exiled as forced labour in Nusa Penida Island. As she thinks that Jaya has died, Sari finally marries Pageh, who has secretly been in love with her. Jaya then escapes from his exile, but finds Sari already married to Pageh, with one child. A fight between the brothers ensues, but is soon resolved. Then a group looking for the fugitive Jaya arrives. Jaya tries to run away but is killed.
