After high school, as the oldest daughter, Hesti wants to share responsibility to help her parents pay for the education of her younger siblings. She goes to Jakarta and intends to live in her uncle’s house. But his house has been demolished so Hesti lives in a brothel. Hesti’s sacrifice is not in vain as her family becomes more prosperous. When her sister, Nita, is engaged, Hesti returns home. Her sister is engaged to Guntur, one of her customers who never took advantage of her. But there is another guest, a brothel customer who was once insulted by Hesti. The guest reveals Hesti’s secret. All of her family is angry, except Hesti’s father. Hesti runs away and attempts suicide by the sea. Her father and Anwar, who loved her for many years, manage to stop her.
