Ketika Senyummu Hadir

Initially this film seems to be about sex education, but this turns out to be just a way of introducing the young characters who are just entering into puberty. The story starts when Roy (Sandy Taroreh) grabs the breast of Ninuk (Vivi Samodro) during a basketball game at their school. Roy is not certain whether this was accidental or on purpose. However, as a bright student who does well academically and is also good at sports, especially the game of basketball, which was popular at the time the film was made, Roy appears to be a responsible youth. Fortunately, Roy’s parents (Frans Tumbuan and Ratna Riantiarno) are ideal parents who attempt to understand their child, whom their consider as part of the "future of the nation" (characteristic of the thinking of Sophan Sophiaan). These parents stand in stark contrast to the father of  Ninuk (F. Sukowati), who has misguided perceptions of how to express love for his child and to adhere properly to the traditions of Java. In the end, Roy acts “like a man” and resolves the problem himself.
