Synopsis
(title translation: Cul-de-sac)
The film presents four disparate "stories " that describe the youth of today from their own perspective, a world that is often misunderstood by older generation. Each of the four main characters has their own dreams, desires, obsessions and problems. What is unique about this movie is the stylistic form used to portray the youths. The form is very close to the style of video clips that appear frequently on MTV. As such, this film is truly "liberated" from Indonesian film history. The success of Kuldesak lies in the representational youthful world that seems to be both real and virtual at once, as if this world is free from values. The filmmakers also seemed to keep their point of view objective, thus allowing the audience to participate.
Note
The film was a joint venture by the directors who self-financed the production, though some funds came from RCTI, a local private television station, and Hubert Bals Fund. The casts who are involved were not paid.
