Synopsis

Karmila, a medical student, becomes pregnant after being raped by Feisal at a party. The hard-hearted girl has to marry, and her lover is willing to accept her condition. She actually does not want the baby. The remorseful Feisal tries to change his bad behaviour to win Karmila’s love. She finally changes her neglectful behaviour when her child is seriously ill. Her maternal instinct wakes up and she returns to her husband and child.

Adapted from a popular novel with the same title, which was published in a serialized short stories in Kompas. This film was trialled in court by PT Citra Indah Film, one of the production companies, because the other company, PT Madu Segara Film was considered to take over the whole film after it is ready to be released. This film is considered as popular as the novel, which has been reprinted eight times and reached 55,000 sales, when the film was released. Since the rise of the national film in 1970, this film is the fifth film that managed to break through and stayed for a long time in high-class theaters. The other four films are Bernafas dalam Lumpur (Breathing in Mud), Pengantin Remaja (Young Bridesgroom), Bing Slamet Koboi Cengeng (Bing Slamet the Crybaby Cowboy), and Ratapan Anak Tiri (Stepchild's Laments). This film is stated as the second box office film in Jakarta in 1976, with 213,036 audience, according to Perfin.
