Anton and Diana’s honeymoon ends bitterly, when a car hits her. Diana becomes paralyzed and deemed unlikely to conceive a child. Anton stays loyal to her even though his parents disapprove, as he is an only child. If he does not have a child, the family line will end. So the parents tell Anton to find another wife. Anton insists on staying with his wife, even though he does not have the courage to defy his parents. Salim, a driver, and Mirah, a nurse, who are hired for them by Anton’s parents, plan to end Diana’s life. Mirah tries to seduce Anton. Diana is then tormented by nightmares. The dreams feature the two nearby enemies and Anton’s parents. One morning when Anton’s parents visit them, it is as if Diana sees her nightmares come true. This cures her paralysis.
