I’m Star

Mella (Natasha Dematra), a beautiful and sociable OSIS chief (an extracurricular organisation in high school), changes when autistic students move to her school. They are Arya (Arianda Wiradipa Prabowo), Abhy (Made Dwara Abhy), Shinta Andhityas (Cintya Widianna) and Ervitha (Ervitha Puspa Dhewie). Mella is haunted by the memory her brother who was allegedly autistic too. He has died in a car accident. All this drives Mella to get close to these autistic students.

Their presence, though, makes teachers feel awkward. Students, Mella’s friends, feel the same way. As if it’s not enough, Mella’s mother (Anna Tarigan) and apathetic father oppose what Mella does with her autistic friends. She has to walk alone, defending her friends who are claimed as shut off inside their own lives.

Having difficulty to express their true feelings, the autistic teenagers create music. With Mella’s help, in a band called I’m Star, they express themselves for a very basic goal: acceptance.
