Gadis

Mrs. Titik and her daughter leave home when her officer husband goes after another woman. They become laundresses to the rich families. But when their laundry is stolen, Gadis, the daughter, has to become a slave at Renggo’s house. Here, Gadis meets Jaka who has just graduated from Mosvia (Middlebare Opleiding School Voor Inlandsche Bestuur Ambtenaren, a school built by the Dutch in 1874) and is assigned to the area. Then Renggo evicts the village as the plantation director wants to expand his land. Renggo’s daughter, Rini, who is Jaka’s girlfriend, is impregnated by Jaka’s best friend, Andi. When Jaka and Andi want to take Rini away, the evicted village people attack Renggo’s house and Andi is killed on the street. Then Rini tells Gadis that Jaka had promised to allow Andi to marry her. It is Rini’s trick to save her face. Later, Jaka officially proposes to Gadis. Meanwhile, Renggo attacks the village people in retaliation eventhough the plantation director had promised the people that they can return to their village.
