Synopsis

 

(literal translation of Desa di Kaki Bukit: Storm in the Foothills)
A subtle propaganda about family planning, we witness the once secluded Semangka village slowly opening up to progress due to a new connecting bridge. New visitors come to the village; Rais, an idealist teacher who wants to make the children of the village excel better in education; Sadiah, a midwife who promotes family planning; also a medicine man and traveling photographer, and also a prostitute. The last two characters are used to bring comedy to the film. Rais’ and Sadiah’s efforts are facing resistance from Said, a tobacco farmer in the village. But slowly, Said comes to his senses and finally supports Sadiah and Rais.
