Dukun Lintah

(title translation: The Leech Shaman)

Hany and Nurdin are lovers but their relationship is not approved by Hany’s father, Rustam. Rustam wants to betroth Hany to Hendra, as he owes money to Hendra’s father, Hidayat. Hendra tries to woo Hany in many ways, but Hany always turns him down, even when he tries to hypnotise her. With her mother’s blessing, Hany marries Nurdin. Hendra’s failure leads him to go to the leech shaman. Nurdin is hexed and in severe pain that no doctor can cure. He is taken to another shaman in a village. But the shaman, Mak Ondong, mysteriously dies. The film also mysteriously turns into a comedy at this point. Then Hany is infected with the rabies-like disease. Another disease with leeches infects some of the village people. Hany’s parents, who want to visit their daughter, become the target of anger by the sickly people. They ask for help from Ibrahim, a local cleric. With the power of prayer, Ibrahim manages to drive out the evil leeches. Hendra is killed while trying to escape. Nurdin and Hany recover while Rustam admits his mistake for persuading Hany to marry Hendra in the first place.
