Demam Tari

(title translation: Dance Fever)

Vera and her friends just won the breakdance competition. This irritates Bobby, who is a tutor, especially when his paying students are moving to Vera’s group and practising for free with an American tutor. WHen one of Vera’s members has to return home to Medan because the mother has to undergo surgery, Vera and her friends start breakdancing on the streets, to raise money. Bobby and his friends are jealous and cause trouble by stealing the money from them. Vera confronts Bobby and demands the money back threatening to tell his parents. Bobby sells his hi-fi equipment, returns the money and joins Vera’s group. They perform together and after watching the show, a film producer signs them. While the story is only a fraction of the movie, most of the time is taken with breakdancing scenes, both in rehearsals and performances.
