Cintaku Tergadai

(title translation: My Love is Pawned)

After graduating from high school, Prayitno leaves his village for Bandung to find work, especially after his girlfriend’s parents reject him. He is soon robbed of his belongings when he gets there so he becomes a gardener for a rich businessman, Harjo, a widower with one child, Ratna. Because she is lonely, and is often helped by him, Ratna starts dating Prayitno. Harjo is angry and falsely accuses him of stealing his jewelry, so that Prayitno is jailed for one and a half years. Later Harjo becomes bankrupt due to financial speculation and his house is mortgaged. The certificate to the house keeps changing hands, until it falls into Prayitno’s hands. He has become successful and is director of the company that belongs to Marjono, aka Hoo Jin, whom he helped in prison. At first, Prayitno wants revenge but Marjono talks to him and he changes his mind because he is still in love with Ratna. But Ratna is offended when he offers to erase all the debts. Then Harjo admits that the jewelry theft was a false accusation. So Ratna looks for Prayitno and everything ends happily. Told in  flashback, the story starts with the court sentencing Prayitno to jail, and moves forward only after Prayitno is released from jail.
