Carok

Markasan wants his son, Jamal, to get a law degree and be a successful man. But Jamal is faced with a difficult choice as his thesis about Carok (the custom of "carok" involves grabbing an enemy from behind with a knife and cutting his carotid arteries or his stomach. Reasons for committing carok include adultery, disputes about goods or cattle and loss of dignity) is difficult to finish because of his family’s history. He refuses his father’s insistence to carry out Carok when his younger brother dies during a student brawl. Moreover, his older brother, Hasan, dies of Carok performed by Harun, after his wife Ruminah cheats on him. Harun deliberately instigates Ruminah to destroy the Markasan family, his rival in the scrap metal trade. Then a man spreads rumours that Harun’s father was murdered by Markasan. Harun now collaborates with Johny Ireng who also covets Markasan’s scrap metal business. Jamal doesn’t want to follow his father’s business method that is slightly illegal. But when his father dies and his mother urges him to, Jamal has no choice. He kills Johny Ireng and his men. He also challenges Harun to a duel. When Jamal is cornered, Ruminah stabs Harun with a knife, after realising that Harun has been using her, especially when Harun’s other wife makes love to him in front of her. Jamal is imprisoned and begs his brother not to be like him.
