Synopsis

(title translation: Shadow at Dawn)

Omar acts as he pleases without any inhibitions. He even dares to rape Suryani, a girl who is adopted by his family and loved by Salim, his step-brother. Omar does not stay in the rubber plantation, instead he lives in the city and spends all the money that Salim worked hard for, to indulge himself with a prostitute, Sandra. When he finishes the money, he returns to the rubber plantation. He sees that Suryani is now married to Salim. She married him to protect her unborn child, a result of Omar’s rape. She rejects Omar, who now asks for her hand back, because she loves Salim more.

Note

This was a remake of Usmar Ismail’s film, Tjitra (1949), which was originally written for a stage play. Compared to Tjitra, this film had only minor changes to meet the co-production agreements between Singapore and Malaysia. The character names were also changed. A. Lam Shoon Kong was appointed as line producer. S. Roomai Noor wrote the dialogue in the Malay language.
