Bercinta dalam Mimpi

Putu Wijaya’s writing style, in his theatre scripts, novels, and short stories, has a strong influence to the film. Dream and reality seem to merge. Tonton, a university student who is often ridiculed at home, runs away and rents a room in Jakarta. He often has a dream in which he defends a girl who is being attacked by four gang members. But the girl he loves in the dream turns out to be real. She is Kesti, who has just transferred to the university. Kesti is close with Roy, who is rich and has a car. Roy is very interested in Kesti but she only considers him a friend. His friends nickname Tonton “Professor” for being a bookworm, and sexually repressed. Tonton prefers to mix reality with his dream. He buys a Batman costume for himself and his friends, so that in the dream they can face the criminals that are harassing Kesti. In reality, he has no courage to confess his love. Even his love letter to her is not sent, making his friends secretly take it to Kesti, without his knowledge. Then the bad guys in his dreams also turn out to exist in reality. They are sent by Roy to beat up Tonton. Tonton then dons his Batman suit and beats up Roy’s henchmen. In the end, Tonton manages to get Kesti to be his girlfriend.
