A young man wants to make a change and fights against the remnants of feudalism in his society. After returning from his studies in America, Harry Notokoesoemo feels disappointed by his father, Raden Mas Soedjarwo Notokoesoemo. Harry thinks that his father has abandoned the ideals of the struggle for Indonesia’s independence. A conflict between father and son grows. Then Harry announces that he wants to marry Ira, a singer whose family background is not good enough for his father. Harry also fights for the rights of the workers in his father’s factory. Then his father and his child, Marhaenanta, dies. But Harry still maintains a hope and faith for his beliefs and keeps fighting for the good of the society. He becomes a political activist who gives many lectures.
