Apa jang Kunanti?

(title translation: What am I Waiting For?)

From Jakarta, Herianto goes to Bangka Island. There he becomes acquainted with Amir Hamzah, who has a daughter named Fatimah. Herianto marries Fatimah and lives with her. Then one day, he returns to Jakarta, and there meets Kuntari, whom he falls in love with. Amir Hamzah then dies and Fatimah, distressed at being left behind by Herianto, fails to manage the inheritance, and goes bankrupt. The white pepper market rises and induces Herianto to go back to Bangka Island again. There he accidentally meets Fatimah. At seeing Herianto holding hands with Kuntari, Fatimah kills herself. Filled with regret and sorrow, Herianto runs toward the seashore, where he is struck by lightning and dies.
